The FOURTH question is always: How much do they COST?

This is the hardest question to answer and it will depend on your attitude to shelter and your practical abilities. We know of several owner builders who have attended one of our workshops and have gone on to build their own straw bale home for less than $300 per square metre. We have built our own pavilion style straw bale home for less than $60,000 or $200 per square metre. We also know of straw bale buildings that have cost as much as a rendered brick home and in some cases more.
