Ready for Roofing in 3 Days!

The steel frame was completed in 3 days an excellent job with very skilled tradesmen. Next job is roofing which requires scaffold. Our team has made all the bottom and middle plates and start on the top plates tomorrow. We get delivery of the first semi trailer of 600+ straw bales on Wednesday. It is a pleasure to work with such skilled men from carpenters, electricians, plumbers and steelies.

Excellent Result

Today we started our next job. This is a large building 28 metres x 22 metres by 6 metres high straw bale walls. We have a great team and the builder and his team are exceptional tradesmen.

The steel frame went up today. We will be using the hybrid method for compression and for strength as well as achieving a very accurate middle and top plate system.

We believe that if you are going to be convincing in anything that you do then you should be convinced yourself. That is why we live in our own straw bale house. It is now 15 years since we brought straw bale building to Australia and for the past 12 years we have had the amazing benefits of living in a straw bale home made up of 7 pavilions.

Our own home filmed by Better Homes and Gardens in Ganmain this is where we live and we love our straw bale home.

Wangaratta Workshop Day 5 last day

The whole town of Oxley is talking!

The workshop came to an end today and without a shadow of doubt our best yet. We achieved far more than we set out to do or were required to do.

Initially we were going to build 2 of the 4 pavilions, however we built 3 of them.

Thanks to all those who worked so hard and at the same time had a fun time.

ANZAC DAY 2012

George Glassford marching in Cairo (X marks my dad)

For Australians and New Zealanders today is ANZAC Day and a special day for our women and men in uniform and who served our countries.

My Father Geroge Glassford landed at Gallipoli 97 years ago today and lost an eye. he was sent to the hospital ship and then to Egypt to recover. With one eye he went onto the Western Front in Europe even though he could have gone home to New Zealand as he did not want to leave his mates.

To all our Turkish friends on ROTI we share this day as you lost many good young men as we did. I will always look to Mustafa Kemel Ataturk’s wonderful tribute to our ANZACS and Johnnies (The British).

You, the mothers, who sent their sons from far away countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. Straw Gold at the end of the Rainbow

Another excellent day the previous night’s rain did no damage at all. Everyone worked very hard and fast today and learnt many things. Building is an emotional exercise at times. However the team did remarkable things today and we started rendering at 10am. The photos tell the story of day 3.
