The Hall of Conciliation, Ganmain, New South Wales
The plans, by Architect Dr. Paul Downton, Ecopolis, Adelaide.
In 2002 from December 2nd to the 6th. 110 delegates, from Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Canada, The Netherlands, Denmark and France, gathered in Wagga Wagga and Ganmain for the 2nd. International Straw Bale Conference. The practical side to that conference was the building of the Hall of Conciliation in Ganmain. Susan and John Glassford returned a half acre block of land to the Wiradjuri Nation.
The offer of the land was taken up on behalf of the Wiradjuri people by Wiradjuri Elders Cec and Flo Grant. The building went up in 5 days or around 15 hours (3 hours per day for the 110 delegates), in a wonderful show of community building. At the conclusion of the conference Archbishop Francis Carroll and three other pastors dedicated the building and it is now known as the Ganmain Hall of Learning and Conciliation.
